    Chia  Seeds…

I think everyone by now has heard of the mini power seeds that are chia. Their nutritional content is remarkable and they are super versatile.  They are packed with omega-3s, omega-6s, protein, calcium, iron, zinc, fibre, and antioxidants.

On top of this, they have been linked with the ability to build muscle, lower cholesterol and reducing the risk of heart disease.  I first heard about these bad boys in Christopher McDougall’s book Born to Run (a super read if you haven’t checked it out).

I decided to try the chia ‘paste’ by mixing them with water, putting them in the fridge over night and eating them like a gel before running…as it sounds…GROSS!  Since that experience however, barely a day goes by I don’t eat/drink them in a smoothie, baking or thrown into a meal.  They truly are a top little super food and well worth incorporating into your diet.

At Nana’s we stock the white chia seeds (the same nutritional content as the black ones) and are all Australian!

Homemade Jam (can be used with any fruit you like!)

    2 cups of frozen blueberries

    3 tbsp pure maple syrup

    1 tbsp chia seeds

Half a teaspoon of orange zest

Combine all ingredients in a stick blender container, wazz up and cha-ching...beautiful healthy jam!  Store in the fridge.
